From Research to Real-World Impact

A two-day experience designed for scholar-practitioners who want to reconnect, share ideas, explore future research, and translate doctoral work into real-world impact.

Thursday Evening: Welcome & Warm-Up

Informal kickoff for early arrivals

5:30–7:00 PM

Open-House Reception: “Welcome Back to Campus”

Location: Mezzanine at Pastaria in Clayton, 7734 Forsyth Blvd, Clayton, MO

An informal kickoff for early arrivals. Drop in to reconnect with classmates, meet other DBA alumni, and enjoy some dinner and refreshments. No agenda, no pressure. Just conversation and catching up before the weekend begins.

Friday – Day 1: Reconnecting & Showcasing Impact

Workshops, networking, tools, and alumni stories

Grab coffee, meet the organizing team, and get oriented for the day.

Walk from ABH to EIC

Transition from check-in and breakfast to the morning sessions at the EIC.

Opening Session: “Setting the Stage” — Bill Butler

Location: EIC Theater

Welcome remarks, program overview, and a look at how the DBA community continues to shape research and practice.

9:00–10:00 AM

Workshop: “From DBA to Consultant” — Kevin Sansberry

Location: EIC Theater

Kevin will share how he leveraged his DBA and research to pivot into a consulting career. Through this interactive workshop, you’ll learn to use some of the same tools Kevin used and walk away with a solid start toward that first consulting gig.

Networking Coffee Break

Location: EIC Lobby

Refuel, reconnect, and continue the conversation with fellow scholar-practitioners.

10:30–11:30 AM

Faculty Spotlight: “Intro to the World of R” — John Meriac

Location: EIC Theater

John will take us through a quick overview of getting started with R.

11:30 AM–12:15 PM

Panel: “From DBA to a Career in Academics” — Michael Wieck, David Beverly, Jaime Peters

Location: EIC Theater

Alumni share how they’ve used their DBA to transition into academia. Hear lessons learned in the move from corporate or government roles into teaching, along with advice from DBAs using the degree to accelerate their academic careers.

12:15–12:30 PM

Walk from EIC to ABH

Transition back to ABH for lunch and networking.

12:30–1:30 PM

Lunch: “Ideas & Introductions”

Location: ABH 002

Networking lunch with current DBA students, alumni, and faculty. Learn more about their current research interests and see if there is a connection to be made.

1:30–1:45 PM

Walk from ABH to EIC

Transition back to the EIC for the afternoon sessions.

1:45–3:00 PM

Workshop: “Problems Yet to Be Addressed In…”

Location: EIC Breakout Rooms

Bring your toughest unanswered questions. DBA alumni and faculty will break into groups of similar interest to discuss what questions are yet to be answered on various topics and to identify areas for joint, continued research.

3:00–3:15 PM

Tools for Qualitative Research — Basia Skudrzyk

Lightning Talks: “Spotlight on Scholar-Practitioners”

Fast-paced, 7-minute stories from alumni on applying dissertation findings, leading change, or translating data into decisions.

Workshop: “Should I Publish?” — Steve Moehrle

Location: EIC Theater

You’ve finished your dissertation, and you want to get it out into the world, but publishing seems like a huge hurdle. Steve will share insights, offer practical tips, and answer your questions about publishing.

Closing Reflections: “Next Chapters” — Bill Butler

Location: EIC Theater

Share insights, commitments, and future plans for ongoing collaboration through alumni research clusters and mentoring circles.
